Gigi Guttersen (2024)

Gigi Guttersen (b. 1997, Napa Valley, USA) is an artist currently based in London. She holds an MA in Material Futures from Central Saint Martins, where she explored mixed mediums, from analogue craft to interactive technologies, and especially enjoyed working with textiles. The artist has a background in fashion and she worked in a hand-painted wallpaper company, where she developed a passion for patterns and colours.

Over the last 10 months, Gigi has spent time at Kupfer’s residency studio, developing her interest in colour theory and oil painting, and exploring the theme of casual intimacy and the ephemeral nature of connection with people and nature. The artist worked on representations of natural forms and plants, which first sparked her interest while living in Rio de Janeiro and learning more about tropical botanics. Recently she embarked on portraying the actress and model Birgit 'Gitte' Lee, whom she met in 2020, and who happens to be her next-door neighbour in London.
