Kupfer’s had the pleasure of hosting a residency for the artist Magda Bielesz over the last few weeks (4 July - 22 August 2023).

Kupfer’s team first collaborated with Bielesz for the exhibition Mothering, which took place in Summer 2022. The show was a collective investigation into motherhood, and it progressed into a permanent platform for artist mothers and artists whose practices draw on motherhood. In Bielesz 'contribution to the exhibition, the artist welcomed her child into her work, reversing the roles between adult and child: the mother / adult / educated artist tried to return to the innocence and the unrestricted freedom of drawing in a way specific to the child.

One year later, Kupfer welcomed back Magda Bielesz in their residency studio in order for the artist to expand her investigation into her dual identity as a painter and as a mother.

The artist initated her residency, exploring the question ‘Do adults and children live in two separate worlds?’, and over the next few weeks she created several paintings and short video works in collaboration with her family (her son Maurycy Tereszczuk and her husband Radek Tereszczuk), naming the project Sketches and recipes

Sketches and recipes is a manifestation of Bielesz’ interest in the process of cooking and the way she compares it to painting.

Please join us for Magda Bielesz’ Open studio day on 18 August, Friday, 11:00 - 16:00, at Kupfer, 3 Scrutton Street, London EC2A 4HF.

This residency project is supported by The Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
